Difficulties in executive functioning and attention are widespread across neurological disorders and often result in significant negative impact on the quality of life for both patients and their families. Individuals who suffer from problems in these areas of thinking often struggle with organization, multitasking, planning and maintaining their focus, all of which can negatively impact daily activities. Though generally thought to be a cornerstone of disorders like ADHD, dysfunction in executive function and attention play a central and critical role in a whole host of neurological diseases including dementia, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumors.

  • Our Approach

By focusing on performance within these core areas of thinking, our multi-disciplinary clinic provides patients with a simple but powerful framework for understanding and treating one of the key driving issues contributing to cognitive problems in daily life. In addition, the clinic acts as a central hub, coordinating this multi-disciplinary approach, geared towards improving symptoms. Patient progress is closely monitored, and our therapeutic approach is adjusted accordingly.

  • What to Expect at Your Visit

Patients in our clinic can expect careful expert diagnosis including:

    • Neurological evaluation
    • Brain imaging (if needed)
    • Sensitive and objective computerized and/or neuropsychological assessment
    • Consultation with other disciplines as appropriate (e.g., Psychiatry, Sleep Medicine)

Treatment approaches include various combinations of:

    • Medications
    • Individualized and guided cognitive training through the BrainFit® Club
    • Patient-oriented physical training programs at the Tanger Be Well Center
    • Support and mentoring of life coaches

In addition, patients with executive function and attention deficits will be offered the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge clinical research studies at the Berenson-Allen center for non-invasive brain stimulation (BA-CNBS) where researchers currently use a combination of advanced neuroimaging and brain stimulation to understand and modulate the neural mechanisms underlying these deficits.
