Welcome to the Cognitive Neurology Unit (CNU) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). The CNU is an outpatient multispecialty clinic devoted to the evaluation and treatment of people who have difficulties in concentration, memory, perception, and language as well as emotional consequences resulting from an injury or disease affecting the nervous system. Our staff has expertise in cognitive neurology, neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology, neurorehabilitation and social work.
We offer diagnostic evaluations, including laboratory tests and neuroimaging, and care to persons with:
- Neurological illnesses (such as movement disorders, concussion/traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular disease, multiple sclerosis)
- Memory disorders (including mild cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease)
- Healthy individuals concerned about aging and cognition, with questions about their memory function
- Learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder
- Other neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorders)
Our services include:
- Neurological and neurocognitive evaluation and consultation
- Psychopharmacological evaluation and treatment for patients within our unit
